Noventiq has implemented a SAM project for the Russian office of Bonduelle, in the course of which it has conducted a large-scale inventory of Microsoft software in all company units. As a result, the client has received information on the current state of the company software assets and recommendations for choosing an optimal software licensing model.
Situation
Bonduelle Group established its first office in Russia in 1994. Bonduelle has been a leader on the Russian market of canned vegetables for more than 20 years. The Russian affiliate of Bonduelle has a geographically-distributed infrastructure: plants are located in the Krasnodar region and the central office is in Moscow.
All Microsoft licenses have been acquired by each company unit individually following the Open License program. The IT department pays a lot of attention to intellectual property rights, copyrights and Microsoft licensing requirements. To make a comprehensive evaluation of current software and choose a more flexible licensing model for the future, the CIO of the company has taken a decision to implement a SAM project in cooperation with Noventiq.
Solution
Noventiq specialists have performed IT infrastructure analysis in each business unit and have made a detailed usage pattern of all the available categories of Microsoft software. An inventory of 7 servers and 223 users’ workstations enabled by Microsoft Assessment and Planning Toolkit (MAP) has been performed. Beside the software inventory, the project also included works on information security assessment. Noventiq SAM specialists have analyzed the server infrastructure and provided recommendations on 20 main criteria for the protection against cyberthreats.
It was suggested for the client to switch to the Microsoft Products and Services Agreement (MPSA). It is a perpetual license program that enables creating several user accounts for license acquisition for each regional branch. This approach simplifies software procurements.
The client was also recommended to use virtualization. It will enable the client to use more efficiently the available server capacities without additional licensing. Noventiq specialists also proposed the client to optimize the Microsoft SQL Server usage by moving the 1С database to Microsoft Azure platform.
Results
Noventiq experts have audited the license compliance of desktop OS, productivity applications and server systems. The report developed as project result will be a basis for further infrastructure development and IT asset management in the company units in Russia.
